Storm damage to Houston weatherheads. What is a weatherhead?
Many Houston houses receive their electric power by way of overhead wires running from the electric pole to the house. Homes with this above ground entry for their power have a weatherhead which is mounted on the roof or side of the house.
The weatherhead allows the power lines to be protected from the weather. The weatherhead is usually mounted on the top of a piece of pipe or conduit and the wires then run down the piping into the service panel mounted on the house.
Weatherheads are required by most municipal electrical codes or building codes. When a storm damages the weatherhead, power can not be restored to your home even if other neighbors have power. A licensed electrician needs to replace the damaged weatherhead prior to restoring power to your house.
